Photographer Alex Prager’s new work, Week-End will open in June at the Michael Hoppen Gallery in London. I found this work via toomuchchocolate.org, an online collection for new photographic works, rotating interviews and news. Looks like Prager is reinventing Cindy Sherman’s untitled film stills for a new approach to a shellacked and airbrushed woman’s weekend. Undoubtedly eerie in their doll-like frames, these women are dressed as if from 1960′s Hollywood, caught in their most intimate and awkward acts.
I can’t tell if I totally love this portfolio or feel completely removed from that which it critiques. It’s shocking in a way that so obviously parallels this hyper public type of indulgent lifestyle. Here’s some of her portfolio below, as well as Cindy Sherman’s classic approach to the B-movie Hollywood damsel.
