Geoffrey Houghton – “Pedi-Cure”
Show runs from June 8th – July 10th
Artist reception on June 8th, 6-9pm
UNITE will host a gallery reception for local artist, Geoffrey Houghton on June 8th, from 6-9pm; refreshments will be served. Geoff’s work will be on display during the month of July.
Geoff Houghton has always had a fascination for the visual arts and as a child he would frequently draw unusual characters to amuse his family. A self-taught artist, Geoff started painting watercolors in the 1990′s, but lost interest in traditional subject matters. It wasn’t until about 2006 that he discovered the enjoyment of fine illustrative style painting that enabled him to express his creativity in a colorful bold way that has been referred to as a sub-genre of Steampunk with elements of Pop Surrealism. Geoff’s art focuses primarily on colorful and whimsical illustrative characters that portray a different time, fashion and technology who are twisted into his colorful SteamFolk world also referred to as “Wistful World”.
Entitled the ‘Kozik Quickstrike’, the artist worked on the Nike SB Dunk High Premium and gave it a military theme, both in terms of colors and materials. His signature is placed with a stencil style print on the heel. UNITE will be releasing these during the month of May.
Sloan Tomlinson, Lux Introsum Series
March 9th – April 10th at UNITE
Opening, Friday, March 9th from 6pm-9pm
202 Main St, Northampton, MA
During Northampton’s monthly Art’s Night Out UNITE will be presenting Sloan Tomlinson’s photographs Friday March 9th from 6-9pm. Refreshments will be served. Artwork will be on display and for sale until April 10th.
Sloan Tomlinson is Hatfield based photographer who stretches the limits of traditional film photography. His pieces have luscious colours that seem to glow and transform, the photos appear more like abstract paintings than photographs. The images are created using severe chemical damaging of the film, prior to, during, and after the development. The bright surreal colours are created only from this technique and are not altered digitally, although the negatives are scanned in and then printed on an archival pigment printer. There is a sense of blood vessels, corpuscles, brachial tissue and other inner unseen worlds to the photographs. Sloan attempts to create beauty out of chaos from the rather uncontrollable film technique.
Stop by UNITE to check out the new arrival from Nike SB. The Nike SB Koston 1 in a new vintage green colorway. The vintage green suede upper spills over onto the ankle collar and liner. Metallic silver is used on the silhouette, but is definitely subtle over the Nike Swoosh. The outsole has a white finish, though a speckled gum outsole sits on the lateral toe.
Here is a preview of what will be stocking in the fall from Onitsuka Tiger.
Premier Los Angeles skate and sneaker destination Hot Rod gives us a look into the upcoming “Lights Out” SB, which celebrates the final season of HBO’s critically acclaimed series Entourage.
